Canadian employees are reporting high levels of stress and burnout. By leveraging our innovative approach to benefits, you can support their psychological safety and emotional well-being.

Nearly half – 49% – of Canadian workers surveyed told us that they feel stressed in everyday life. And for Gen Z in the workplace, that number is even higher.

Mental health emerged as one of the top priority areas for employers to address, with employees saying their emotional well-being has been affected by work stress and burnout.

Alongside younger workers, women are also more likely to report feeling workplace stress. As workforce diversity only continues to grow, fostering a culture of psychological safety at work, as well as equity and inclusion, is becoming more and more important.

Benefits can lead the way

One of the major takeaways from our survey of more than 17,000 workers worldwide is that employees are looking to their benefits to help them and their families with mental health. Whether for workplace stress or financial stress, taking an innovative approach to benefits can support greater diversity and inclusion in the workplace:

  • 39% say insurance that reduces costs of mental health treatment would be helpful to their family
  • 35% are looking for tools to help build skills such as mindfulness and resilience
  • 41% want training to recognize/address mental health challenges
  • 37% would like virtual counselling (video chat) with a therapist for anxiety, sadness or relationship issues
