Actual short-term incentive (STI) payouts at US public and private companies 

Mercer’s 2024 Year End Executive Incentive & Benefits Survey asked organizations throughout North America about their executive rewards practices in 2024 and the changes they plan to make moving into 2025.

Actual STI payout: Relative to target

While payouts between 90% and 110% of target were the most common for both US public and US private companies, US public companies were more likely to have payouts above 110% of target.

Actual STI payout: Relative to the prior year

Half of both US public and US private companies had STI payouts within 10% of the previous year.
