Mercer’s inaugural global Job Architecture Survey explores how businesses are modernizing the framework, with insights into the design, communication, operational effectiveness and governance of job architecture.
According to the survey, most employers leverage job architecture in compensation and benefits programs. But the framework is increasingly valuable for career transparency. Fifty-four percent of businesses believe their job architecture powers career development and/or internal mobility.

Inconsistency continues to plague job architecture design

Whether it is an inconsistent design or unreliable data, realizing the potential of a solid job architecture is not always straightforward. And, for many employers, the skills journey is still in its infancy.

For 38% of them, plugging skills into job architecture is simply not on the cards. Yet a future-fit job architecture is a skills-powered one; the same proportion of businesses plan to link skills to their job architecture in the next 6-12 months.

Only 14% of employers currently underpin their job architecture with skills to improve visibility into career paths.
